Abandonment
Abandon is a minimalist work, as the artist sometimes prefers: three dominant colors—red-orange, black, and white; three naked figures, placed in a rocky space with deliberately blurred edges.
The impact on the viewer is all the more intense because, with just a few strokes, the tragic fate of a mother and her two children is outlined: trapped on a rocky spur barely large enough to hold them, an abyss yawns beneath their feet, while above them, there is no indication of an escape route. The low-angle perspective chosen by the artist further crushes these figures, whose extreme vulnerability becomes even more overwhelming. Their gaze is fixed, faces turned towards what we imagine to be the cliff's edge; the woman and the child appear almost petrified. Stones among stones, in their state of total abandonment, what other fate but death awaits them?
A harrowing vision, but one that, unfortunately, may resonate with so many similar fates around us...
